I loved the ceremony too, but didn't "get" all of the historical references that you mention. It's such a pity the whole thing is being reduced to a culture-wars battleground over one number.

I've seen lots of debates online about it, but I have decided not to engage around it, I've been soaking up the energy of the Olympic games instead!

I loved the nod to the Lumiere brothers, the few seconds shown of "L'Arrivée d'un train en gare de La Ciotat", where we just so happened to be watching the ceremony from. We cheered, to the surprise of the confused other patrons

That was great as well! Forgot to mention that in my article, thanks for reminding me about it!

I loved it SO much, almost too much! I get emotional each time I think about it. Love your insights and your drawings.

Thank you. I got most of the references but you helped fill in the gaps and added great context to the locations as well.

Glad to help! I think I missed a few other references as well, today I realized the boat in the Marie Antoinette scene is a reference to the Paris coat of arms

I loved this, thank you Moriah. Some of the books that the thruple were reading made for a delectable reading list! I always thought Ubisoft was québécois. I loved the Assassin’s Creed reference as that is my favorite game

I think Ubisoft has lots of offices, so it's very possible they have people in Quebec. I didn't know any of the titles of the books in the library, I am sure there are dozens of more references I didn't pick up on!
