August in Paris is slow. Or rather, it is full of tourists and all your local friends will be gone for the majority of the month. So like most other Parisians, I always leave for the city for a little bit during August, even if it’s just to work by the pool at the house of my belle-mère.
During Les Vacances (the vacation), I didn’t really take time off but it was still a relaxing time away from the city. I also made some time to draw and even made a small zine about vacations in France (it’s a ritual they take very seriously here).
While it’s the last week of the summer holiday season and the city is slowly getting ready for la rentrée on Monday, I am still holding onto the last summer rays. In France this week is akin to the week between Christmas and New Year’s in the US. No one is in the office and everyone is making plans for what they are going to do and who they are going to see (and to show off their summer tan before it fades under the grey winter sky).
I’ve got some fun projects planned this fall, which include broadening my French skills by taking ceramic and dance classes in French. And ofcourse I have some new articles planned for the Paris Palette, so keep an eye out on your inbox for more Paris-based features from yours truly.
A bientôt,
-Moriah
